Hi All, some of you may not know that in addition to all the great talk here, I also manage Elvis Aficionados, where all discussions and debates are welcome about all things Elvis. We just moved the site this week bevayse Yahoo groups was difficult to navigate, and MSN seems like it will afford more flexibility.

What EA is all about:

When I was young, Elvis epitomized the kind of person that I wished I could have been. I also noticed that I diverged away from the formal attitude of Elvis fans when it came to denial. The unwillingness I saw, the forbidding and censoring of good discussion bothered me.

I was not among the blind adoration of Elvis Presley – I wanted to know him. For me, what began and continues to this day to come out about his life as a person remains far more interesting, fascinating and meaningful than the two-dimensional Elvis being touted on most club sites.

Elvis was fantastically gifted and talented on so many levels, and also successful beyond most people’s wildest ambitions. It is fascinating that his fatal flaws also happened to be tied to and an intrinsic part of what made his greatest gifts so appealing to millions.

Elvis was an enigma. “The image is one thing, the man another,” he had said. And, he knew the difference. To feel known by others requires a brave attempt at being open, trustworthy and honest. As a club, we are open to this search to find more out about Elvis the man and also in the process, ourselves.

I liken the goal of this site to Proverbs 27:17 which says "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." And the "sharpening" comes from growing more mature in our knowledge, through discussions where people are encouraged and unafraid to state their case, and see where it leads among peers...respectfully and intelligently, of course!
