Profile

About Me:
I am a New Zealand Maori currently residing in Australia , I've been an Elvis Fan for life but also love The Shadows, Manhattans, Champaign, Chi-Lites, Platters, Frankie Lymon,Temptations, Eagles and Doobie Brothers, plus many more. I feel that there is Wairua or (Spirit) in most music or musical performances.
I have played in Bands (Lead Guitar/Vocals) since 1958 when I was 12 years old in New Zealand and Australia.
I am a married Man with Three Children all Adult now and I still play and sing and love music with a passion.
My Spiritual Path and Elvis' influence upon it:
I doubt whether Elvis has any great influence over my spirituality as the Maori people are Spirituality oriented from birth.
However, it is not hard for a spiritual or religious person to recognise the spirituality in others and I believe that Elvis had this ability, aside from his look's and the magic sound of his voice, to draw people toward him, some call it Charisma, I call it Spirituallity in it's highest form a gift from God to move people from the depths of despair to a higher state of being to help them overcome earthly restrictions. I could go on but I won't. I'm sure people who knew him personally or who simply Saw or Heard him perform can understand.
"Hank Marvin" Lead Guitarist of the U.K. Instrumental and Singing Group The Shadows has this same gift in his Musical Performance's on Lead guitar, In tunes like "How Do I Love Thee", "Wahine" and "Cavatina" (Theme From The Deer Hunter) just to name three but there are many more.
Elvis also had this so called Charisma in many of his songs as well as his great performances on stage.
One anagram of "Elvis" is "Lives" and it is people like all of you who keep him alive in your hearts. memories and spirits. Kia Ora.

I liked the Shadows also- but I can't hear anything as it takes like 45 minutes to download since I have dial up and live in "boonie ville" where the phone lines are pardon my "french" , crappy. I get a new computer some day, I will download them all too! I'm sure other people will like it, Paul. Thanks. wjh

Hi Paul, you can always tell Tony Joe White's the one playing guitar by his special kind of soulful licks-- and he tends to stick a lick or two from what he used in "Polk Salad Annie" in a lot of them. Even when he plays back of some one in studio sessions. He did that quite a bit also as people liked his soulful sounds. He has a deep voice and it's perfect for his style... He's getting older but his music is still "fresh" and "funky". I liked Brook's version of "Rainy Night" too, but Tony Joe as the writer, did it best I think. In the On Tour documentary Elvis is going to a performance, riding in a car with his guys and he sings a little phrase of "Rainy Night In Georgia" - he liked Tony's songs too...and Tony Joe, I'm sure still gets some royalties from Elvis recording some of his songs, especially off of "Polk Salad" which turned into a hot piece for Elvis on stage... he put so much effort into it and did a lot of Karate moves and dance to that song. Sometimes it went on and on in Vegas as it rocked the audience. Hope you had a great long weekend- it's cold, cloudy and strange here- we are having March weather in May or something like it....kind of spooky. I even had to blanket our two mares who are on the windy side of the shed row as they are older and have no winter hair anymore. We were about to clean and pack them for the summer-good thing we didn't! Tonight is 40 something they say, and I believe it. Even had to put the fireplace back on a couple of days... and break out my wool blanket again! I know something is screwy with the weather pattern as none of my iris plants have bloomed and they always do in April and May nor did the tulip bulbs I put out grow! Only one and it isn't going to make it either from the looks of it. They were sent to me from Holland by one of ELC members-all colors- even a black one! It's one that did sprout but not a single other one even made an attempt! How is your weather going? Seems strange everywhere.
What's your feelings about that- or thoughts? wjh

For any of you who has tuned in to the Shadows music I downloaded, please let me know if you like it or not,
I know we are all Elvis Fans but it would be nice to know how you feel about Hank Marvin playing his Fender Stratocaster, and other performers who were around during he great Elvis years

I uploaded other artists besides Elvis whom I believe possess some Heart. Soul and Spirit and instil it in their performances whether they be instrumentals or songs

Just thought I'd put some Instrumentals and songs by "The Shadows" on here for those who have never heard them before so that you can get an idea of how much Feeling, Heart, Soul & Spirit these blokes put into there music, especially Hank Marvin the Lead Guitarists. I will of cource put some Elvis Numbers on in due course along with a few other artists that people seem to appreciate as well, The Instrumentals I reffered to of on my Profile Comments called "How Do I Love Thee" and "Wahine" are both on here as well and if you need to listen to some Heart and Soul Music just go straight to those ones and work your way back to the top of the list, Enjoy

Hi Paul, have you heard of Tony Joe White-he is the guy who wrote and sang Polk Salad Annie and Rainy Night in Georgia-both of which have been recorded by others, with Elvis taking Polk Salad Annie way over the top. Tony Joe plays in Aus. alot and is very popular outside the US now.
He's getting older but he's still got good vibes and a great voice. I met him through Elvis years back and haven't heard from him in years though he has lots of website mention and after the Hurricane that hit Lou. his main one wasn't working and I haven't tried it since. He's a nice guy, if you ever do run across him or see his show some time, tell him that Wanda in Calif. said "howdy". Elvis liked him and his music - he recorded some of his other tunes as well. Have a great week. We have RAIN! wjh

Hi Paul, thanks for joining us here and bringing so many beautiful photos and other things for everyone to enjoy. I always thought I'd love to live in Australia until I saw all the bad spiders and snakes running about---but we have that too, they just seem more familiar! You have a well rounded liking of music-like Elvis-he listened to a lot of different types, even classical and liked them all, though he said gospel and blues were his favorites. He never intended to do rock 'n roll-said he just kinda "fell into it"...and it worked.
Bye, have a great Holiday Season down under- wjh

Welcome Paul! It is so great to have your energy with us. You know (I'm sure you do) that Elvis was part Cherokee Native American.
